From Plant Health to Community Health: Focus on Biotechnology and Functional Food.

 



The organizers are pleased to announce the 2nd edition of the international congress on “From Plant Health to Community Health: Focus on Biotechnology and Functional Food”


The first edition, hold in 2020, the year declared as the International Year of Plant Health by ONU, attracted over 300 participants from the scientific and industrial fields from all over the world.

This second edition meets broader themes, based on recognition of the interdependence and the interconnectedness of the promotion of plant health, the protection of valuable ecosystems, the global challenge of population growth and food security, and the maintenance and preservation of human health and well-being, in a broad One Health ethical framework.

In this context, scientists from different countries will discuss together about innovative strategies enhancing fitness and nutraceutical properties of plants, innovative sensors for agriculture and food monitoring, and the beneficial effects of nutraceuticals and functional food on human health.

The conference is for those who desires to address the global health challenges of 21st century, while ensuring the biological integrity of the planet, in a transversal and innovative perspective, to drive the next tasks of Agenda 2030.

High-level event to mark the International Day of Plant Health 2025.

On May 12th, The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) , the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and the International Regional Organization for Plant and Animal Health (OIRSA) are organizing a high-level event to mark the International Day of Plant Health (IDPH) . The Day, under the theme “ The importance of plant health in One Health ”, aims to raise global awareness and action towards protecting plant health to help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment and boost economic development. The high-level event is hosted by OIRSA which also hosts the first 3D technology that simulates management of pest outbreaks , providing a technologically advanced platform that will greatly enhance pest surveillance and response. Highlighting the urgent need for concerted action on a global scale.

  Our world is intricately interconnected, with plant products travelling all around the globe to fulfil different agricultural needs. As such, a constant relevant threat must be considered: biosecurity risks. Invasive pests and pathogens often hitch rides, destroying plant systems and damaging not only agricultural fields but natural ecosystems beyond. The economic toll of these damages amounts to a staggering USD 220 billion globally each yea r, highlighting the urgent need for concerted action on a global scale (FAO, 2024).
