Initiative by Monferrato Green Farm at the occasion of the first International Day of Plant Health.

The HERBARIUMS provide valuable information on the plant beings that make up a very numerous and very varied part of the vital and lively heritage of biodiversity. Each specimen, representation and description contained in an ancient or recently compiled herbarium contains a precious "treasure": many biological or botanical materials that are indispensable today to intervene effectively to safeguard the existence of rare and endangered plants and for the care of plant health, seriously threatened by diseases, parasites and many dangers… in particular environmental degradation. 

This review of HERBARI found in Monferrato, in Italy and in the world and of activities and initiatives carried out to spread knowledge and encourage the use of collections and collections as "sources" of information on the characteristics, qualities and virtues of plants is a repertoire conceived and created by the MONFERRATO GREEN FARM team in collaboration with the partners involved in the initiative, presented in 2022 on the occasion of the first International Day of Plant Health.

High-level event to mark the International Day of Plant Health 2025.

On May 12th, The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) , the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and the International Regional Organization for Plant and Animal Health (OIRSA) are organizing a high-level event to mark the International Day of Plant Health (IDPH) . The Day, under the theme “ The importance of plant health in One Health ”, aims to raise global awareness and action towards protecting plant health to help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment and boost economic development. The high-level event is hosted by OIRSA which also hosts the first 3D technology that simulates management of pest outbreaks , providing a technologically advanced platform that will greatly enhance pest surveillance and response. Highlighting the urgent need for concerted action on a global scale.

  Our world is intricately interconnected, with plant products travelling all around the globe to fulfil different agricultural needs. As such, a constant relevant threat must be considered: biosecurity risks. Invasive pests and pathogens often hitch rides, destroying plant systems and damaging not only agricultural fields but natural ecosystems beyond. The economic toll of these damages amounts to a staggering USD 220 billion globally each yea r, highlighting the urgent need for concerted action on a global scale (FAO, 2024).
